Name keychain
Turn a name into a little thing worth keeping. Raised letters, a sturdy base, ready for your keys.

Letter height uses the font’s capital H as a reference. Descenders and script flourishes can extend beyond it.

How to use the name keychain generator
Make a personalized name keychain without drawing each letter in CAD. The generator adds raised lettering, a supporting base and a ring hole. Choose a contour that follows the name or a rounded rectangular plate. A second line can carry a short label. The preview is a digital model, not a photograph of a tested print; check the exported dimensions and the ring in your slicer before making gifts or customer orders.
Before repeating a design, compare a short name and the longest name you plan to print. Their widths will differ even at the same letter height. Keep the exported model, chosen dimensions and slicer profile together so you can reproduce the result. Check the actual colour-change layer in the sliced preview after any resizing; changing scale also changes the base height. A batch of valid files still needs individual checks for spelling, narrow strokes and ring clearance. The tool does not print the objects, assess their strength or send a job to your machine.
- Enter the name and choose a bundled font. Confirm that accents and punctuation appear correctly; unsupported glyphs produce an error.
- Choose a contour or rectangular base. Set letter height and outline offset, then move the ring to the left, top or right.
- Inspect narrow strokes, the connection to the ring, and the underside in the rotating preview. A longer name makes a wider object.
- Export STL, open it in your slicer and inspect every layer. For a single extruder, add a filament change where the raised lettering begins. Make one test piece before producing a batch.
Settings to start with
These are model settings to test, not a validated printer profile. Check the result with your own material, nozzle and slicer.
| Setting | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Letter height | 14 mm | A useful initial size; the total width depends on the name and font. |
| Base thickness | 2.4 mm | Leaves room for several solid layers beneath the lettering. |
| Raised text | 1.2 mm | Separates the lettering from the base for a visible colour change. |
| Ring hole | 4 mm | Check the fit against your actual split ring after printing. |
Common problems and fixes
Thin letters disappear
Use a heavier font, increase letter height, or inspect the slicer’s thin-wall handling. A visible screen outline does not guarantee a printable extrusion.
The ring breaks
Increase the base thickness and examine the connection. Test the material and layer orientation rather than assuming a decorative keychain is suitable for heavy loads.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make a two-colour keychain?
Yes. Download STL and add a height-based filament change in your slicer where the raised text begins. Check the sliced layers and use the method supported by your printer. Separate-part 3MF export is not available on the current free plan.
Can I process a list of names?
The batch tool previews the first three rows of a list or CSV. Full batch generation and ZIP downloads are not available yet. You can use the single-model tool to download individual designs within the daily limit.
Will script letters remain connected?
The base supports the lettering. Inspect small islands such as dots and punctuation in the slicer, particularly when scaling down.
Can I sell the printed keychains?
The current free plan is for personal use. Commercial licences are not available yet. You must also have permission to use any names, logos or artwork you import.
